Full moon day of Tazaungmone is one of the decent ones of religious days for Buddhism. Full moon day of Tazaungmone is known as ‘Samanya Phala’ Special Day (The day when Buddha preached ‘Samanya Phala Dhamma’ (Dhamma – teaching of Buddha) to calm Khing Ahjardathat who set his own father in prison and killed), as the day of lighting festival and as the special day of weaving fresh lotus robe.

Every year on this full moon day, Buddhists in Myanmar organize the weaving fresh lotus robe ceremony remembering the Buddha. Fresh lotus robe weaving festival (also a competitions of weavers) are hosted in some famous pagodas in Myanmar. In the early morning of full moon day, they offer freshly done robe to Buddha. In Burmese, we call it ‘Ma Thoe Thingan’. ‘Ma Thoe’ means a thing which is not rotten yet and ‘Thingan’ means robe. So ‘Ma Thoe Thingan’ means freshly woven robe done within a day. And they made out of lotus thread.

There was the saying of former elderly Buddhists that the lotus bushes along with eight kinds of ‘Parei Khaja’ (prescribed articles for use by Buddhist monks) popped up as the omen of the birth of Buddhas. According to the numbers of lotus bushes, people could count the numbers of Buddha during the lifetime of an earth. For example, if there was one lotus bush, people could interpret that there would be one Buddha during lifetime of an earth. In this time of Buddha history, Brahmas took and kept those lotus and Parei Khaja to their place. They came down and offer those when the Buddha attained enlightenment. According to this Buddha history, people made robe from lotus and offer to Buddha as the special good deed.
