The species of true sandalwood are originally from India and there are some planted nearby Kabaraye cave, Pyin Oo Lwin and at the foot of Mount Popa in Myanmar. It is a class of evergreen medium-sized tree and can be found up 30 or 40 feet. It is also a semi-parasitic tree with red-brown or dark-brown bark and red wood.

Sandalwood has the bitter taste and has the cold nature if you apply on the skin. It is also medicated to go with other herbs for body heat, heartache, toxic affection and effective for healing many more pains and diseases.

The extracted oil from sandalwood is used as the fragrance and in Myanmar, most of the people valuably use sandalwood oil and incenses only to offer as the fragrance to Buddha. The fragrance of sandalwood also helps retaining concentration and maintain alertness for meditation.

Though there are several different types of aromatic woods, sandalwoods are rare species with retaining its fragrance for decades. These second most expensive slow-growing trees have suffered over-harvesting in the past and now under very strict protections by the country’s governments. From sandalwood, Buddha statue, sculptures, hand fans and beads are made and highly demanded now a day.
